Human Factors and Decision-Making in Emergency Management.

Why is this subject so important? Why is this training so effective?  The most essential element of successful emergency response is competent and confident emergency responders who, individually and collectively, have a sound foundation and knowledge of human factors and decision-making, enabling each to work independently as well as within a team framework in a manner that is resilient to error and conducive to successful outcomes.  Quite simply, this knowledge has the potential to save the lives of both civilians and incident responders.

Additionally, awareness of human factors and the decision-making process has proven to be effective not only in changing behavior to more positive outcomes during emergency response incidents, but also in the day-to-day workplace, individuals’ personal lives, etc.

It's one full day, with minimum two instructors providing short lectures interspersed with relevant and meaningful exercises. We also provide an opportunity for individuals to complete a self-assessment of strengths to sustain, as well as areas in which they might improve.

Above and Below: In The Midst Of An MCS 5-Day Table-Top Simulation: MCS Facilitators work closely with participants, who rotate for 5 days among "The Hot Seat" in the ICP, enacting roles out of the Sim Room, and observing

The President of Emergency Team Solutions, Hugh Carson, has been an instructor for Mission-Centered Solutions (MCS) since 2001.  MCS, with a cadre of 30+ world-class instructors from the military, law enforcement, or domestic disaster emergency domains, is the provider of the DHS-approved Leadership Curriculum: At the Point of the Spear: Leading and Preparing Emergency Response Units (DHS CA-002-PREV or NWCG L-380) and Incident Leadership: Applying the Art of Command and Control in Changing Environments (CA-010-PREV or NWCG L-381).  Both are 5-day courses that explore Human Factors and Decision-Making in depth through use of lecture, both field and classroom exercises, and table-top simulations utilizing role-players from both the MCS cadre and the course participants..

Please contact MCS direct for more information on this highly-effective training.

It is highly recommended, though not required, that personnel who plan to attend the MCS courses first attend ETS' course Human Factors and Decision-Making in Emergency Management.  While not possessing the complexity of MCS' courses, ETS' one-day course is the precursor of those courses, and will definitely provide the foundational building blocks in human factors and decision-making that will make future MCS coursework all that more effective.
